A great priest, bar none. Remember how he use to give every single kid in St Josephs a box of Christmas candy, paying for it out of his own pocket too. I had the great honor of being an alter boy at several of his Masses. Posted: 04/13/2005 Comments... I too had the great honor of serving as an alterboy for Father Dunphy's masses during the 40's. I remember so well the many early morning masses (in the side Chapel) that Father said, regarless of the weather outside. He was an inspiration to every young Catholic in North Adams and the surrounding area. As mentioned by others, the Christmas candy was definitely a true gift each Christmas that we all looked forward to. God Bless him. Posted: 02/14/2006 Can you name the location? Hard to see where the actual alter rail is, seems like a barrier just in back of the coffin up to the alter rail. That church is still one of the most beautiful ones around. I was a freshman at St. Joseph High School in 1965-66, and Vatican II changes put an altar facing the people, which is not there, implemented in 1963 or 1964. The altar rail always had a gate which would open, which the gate is open in the photo. Posted: 03/27/2011 |
