Brooklyn Street, North Adams

Comments...
There were at least two occasions in the past when this street was flooded, one during the 1938 hurricane and the other in the forties, around 1948 during a "hurrigale", again in the fall. Both of these occured when a culvert at the top of the street that dircted a brook that paraled the street (underground on the right side going up the street and behind the housing on the street became clogged with debris and overflowed down the center of the street.

Comments...
I think this picture is of the 1948 flood. I was born and grew up on Brooklyn St. I was about 9 months old when this happened and my parents carried me up over "Hospital Hill" to my cousins on Franklin St.until it could be cleaned up. As others have said it's happened a few times since Brooklyn St. was built. It was a great neighborhood to grow up in.Lots of kids to get in trouble with.
