Professor Schmitzer, aka "Pops", was a brillant chemist/professor who was loved by all his students. As seen in the photo, in his spare time he volunteered as a track and field official for NCAA events. Although well regarded as a result of his academic accomplishments, he is probably best know as the persons who inspired the Muppet character "Beaker."
